Bachelor.
The best investment in the modern world is education. Education is an important and necessary foundation for the future life of any person. A bachelor's degree is the first stage of education according to the Bologna system.
There are several types of bachelor's degrees. On university websites, abbreviations such as BA, BSc, BAS, BFA and others may appear next to the name of the educational program. They indicate the type of bachelor's degree.
Bachelor of Arts (BA). The BA degree is awarded in the field of humanities. The Bachelor of Arts program lasts 3 or 4 years.
Bachelor of Science (BSc). Unlike a BA, a Bachelor of Science education involves not only mastering theoretical material, but also research practice. The BSc degree is mainly awarded in the natural sciences, computer science and mathematics. But it can also be found in social sciences and psychology - in this case, the theoretical content of the humanities will be supported by a strong natural science base. Studying for a BSc, like for a BA, lasts 3-4 years.
Bachelor of Engineering (BEng). The BEng degree is awarded in technical disciplines. Studying for a BEng program will take 3-5 years. In some countries, this degree is equivalent to a BSc. The main difference of a bachelor's degree in engineering is a strong emphasis on practical activities and subsequent employment in the relevant field. Most graduates of technical faculties quickly find work in their specialty, and if they continue their studies in a master's degree, they do this simultaneously with their professional activities.
Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA). BFA is awarded in the field of visual and performing arts. The main emphasis in the learning process is on mastering artistic skills, scientific disciplines are taught to a much smaller extent. The training program is designed for 4 years. This degree may have a different name depending on the country: BFA is common in the USA and Canada, in many countries this degree is called Bachelor of Creative Arts (BCA).
Bachelor's degree is designed for high school graduates who want to get higher education in a certain specialty. Bachelor's degree is determined by the number of academic hours. They are usually measured in educational credits (ECTS), where 1 credit is equal to 25-30 academic hours, depending on the country. To obtain a bachelor's degree, you need to earn 180-240 ECTS for the entire academic period. The bachelor's degree itself will take 3-4 years, with the exception of medical and legal specialties, where the study lasts 5-6 years.
How to apply for a bachelor's degree abroad?
The following documents are required for admission:
• School certificate of secondary education;
• Language test results;
Depending on the country and the university itself, they may also require:
• Motivation letter;
• Letters of recommendation;
• Test results (for example, TestAS or SAT), which simultaneously checks the applicant's level of foreign language proficiency and subject knowledge;
• Portfolio (for creative specialties).
In many foreign countries, an Azerbaijani certificate does not allow one to enter a university immediately after school. In this case, you can choose one of the options:
- Study for several years at an Azerbaijani university
- Take preparatory courses abroad (for example, university pathway program, foundation, A-level, studienkolleg, etc.)
• successfully pass the nostrification exam, which will confirm the applicant's knowledge corresponds to the school education of a foreign country.
The selection of applicants at the university can be based on the average grade (GPA) of the certificate or on the results of entrance exams. The test format is different and depends on the country: the exam can be a written assignment, a test or an interview.
How much does it cost to study in different countries?
The cost of studying abroad varies from 300 euros to 150,000 USD per year. The most expensive countries to get a diploma are the USA, Great Britain, Australia and Hong Kong. You can get a budget education in Hungary, Poland, Turkey, Latvia, Lithuania and other countries. In some countries, for example, in France, Germany, the Czech Republic and Sweden, higher education is absolutely free even for foreigners (students only pay an entrance fee, which is about €150). But, it should be remembered that free education is only possible in the language of the country. That is, in the Czech Republic in Czech, in Germany in German, etc.
Promising applicants have the opportunity to receive a scholarship, which often covers the costs of not only tuition, but also living in the country. Financial assistance to a student can be provided by the government, public organizations or even the university itself.
Career Prospects After a Bachelor's Degree
A Bachelor’s degree provides a strong foundation for launching your career. In many countries, students complete internships in leading companies during their final year, lasting anywhere from two weeks to a full semester. These internships provide practical experience, enhance job prospects, and often lead to full-time employment after graduation.
However, career growth opportunities vary across countries. For example:
🔹 In France and Norway, a Bachelor’s degree alone may not be enough for significant career advancement. A Master’s degree is often required to secure senior roles.
🔹 In countries like Germany, the UK, and the US, graduates with a strong academic record and internship experience can enter the job market directly.
Why Consider a Master's Degree?
A Master’s degree is the second stage of higher education, offering two primary paths:
🎓 Research-Oriented Programs – Ideal for those interested in academia, innovation, and scientific research.
💼 Practical & Professional Programs – Focused on career advancement, skill specialization, and industry-ready expertise.
Whether you aim for immediate employment or further specialization, understanding your options after a Bachelor’s degree is key to shaping your career path.
