Education in the Czech Republic

Studying in the Czech Republic offers a unique combination of high-quality education and affordable costs. One of the main advantages is that education at public universities can be free for those who choose to study in the Czech language. Graduates can benefit from successful employment and excellent career opportunities within the Czech Republic.

Admission Requirements

To pursue higher education in the Czech Republic, you will need either a secondary school certificate or a bachelor's degree. Foreign students must have their diplomas nostrified, meaning they must be recognized as equivalent to Czech qualifications. It is possible to apply to multiple universities simultaneously, which is a common practice in the Czech education system. There is no age limit for applicants.

Free Education in Czech

The key condition for receiving free education in the Czech Republic is proficiency in the Czech language, as applicants must pass a language test and entrance exams. Foreign students are admitted on an equal basis with local applicants through a general competition.

To ensure success in the entrance exams, it is advisable for students to complete preparatory programs offered by state universities. These programs typically last for about a year. After completing the preparatory course, graduates can take entrance exams on an equal footing with other applicants. Statistics show that around 40% of foreign students pass the entrance exams successfully. The highest competition is for programs in medicine and law (with approximately 10 applicants per spot), while technical faculties have a lower competition rate (about 2 applicants per spot). Admission to private universities is usually easier, with entrance competition being 1.5 to 2 times lower than at public institutions.

Degree Programs

  • Bachelor's Programs: These programs generally last between 3-4 years. Upon completion, students receive an internationally recognized diploma and either a Bc or BA degree.

  • Master's Programs: Lasting 2-3 years, these programs are for bachelor's degree holders who wish to deepen their expertise in their chosen field. Graduates receive a MA or Mgr degree and can apply for positions requiring a full higher education.

  • Medical and Law Faculties: In these fields, bachelor's and master's programs are typically combined into a single 5-6 year master's program.

  • Doctoral Programs: Universities that are authorized to confer doctoral degrees offer 2-year PhD programs for students with a master's degree who are interested in pursuing research or teaching.

Student Employment

Under Czech legislation, foreign students are allowed to work legally while studying, but are restricted to no more than 25 hours per week. Part-time work typically pays between 450-700 AZN per month, while positions related to a student’s specialty in companies can earn 1200 AZN or more. The important thing is to balance work with your academic commitments to ensure a quality education.
